Course Overview

The world-class, Singh-designed Els Club Desaru Coast Valley Course is widely acclaimed as one of the finest luxury golf developments in Malaysia. Co-designed by three-time Major champion Vijay Singh alongside the Ernie Els design team, the course brought the region squarely onto the international tournament map upon its opening. Nestled right beside the South China Sea, it offers an unrivaled playing experience for golf travelers looking for premier championship conditions in Johor.

Impeccable Conditioning

Maintained to the immaculate standards expected of a Troon Golf managed resort layout, the tees, fairways, and greens are kept in flawless condition. The integration of premium turf surfaces ensures excellent, consistent playability year-round while tracing the dramatic natural valleys and winding forest borders of the resort landscape.

The Desaru layout serves as a fair but engaging test of golf, demanding thoughtful strategy and smart shot placement on every single hole. While the strategically located sand traps—boasting over 180 artistic bunkers—and rolling stream hazards are tricky, they are beautifully framed from each tee box. The greens feature small, precise putting surfaces with subtle undulations, rewarding and encouraging a diverse variety of approach shots. Daily pin positions can moderate the difficulty of each hole—ranging from friendly to highly challenging—while various tee box locations allow both low and mid-handicappers to choose the ideal course length for their game.

The Thrilling Final Three

The final three holes make up some of the most challenging, dramatic, and fun closing stretches on the entire course:

• Hole 16 (Par 5 - 545 Yards): A true risk-reward test of accuracy that requires navigation through a narrow corridor of trees. The distinct angle of the fairway layout, combined with heavy fairway bunkers guarding the landing zones, poses a massive challenge for those attempting to get their approach shots close. A cautious second-shot lay-up away from the hazards sets up a demanding pitch onto a small, elevated green.
• Hole 17 (Par 3): A beautiful par 3 that plays directly across a valley stream to a shallow green heavily guarded by deep sand traps. The back pin locations, in particular, demand an exceptionally well-struck and accurate tee shot to prevent rolling off into the deep collection areas.
• Hole 18 (Par 4 - 445 Yards): A spectacular finishing hole and a true signature design that guarantees dramatic finishes. The layout presents a sharp dogleg where elevation changes and clever bunkering cut across the fairway line, heavily impacting both the tee shot and the approach. To open up the best angle into the undulating home green, golfers must bravely challenge the slopes off the tee.
