Spanning 60 hectares along the scenic shores of the Straits of Singapore, Laguna Golf Bintan features an 18-hole championship layout originally designed by Greg Norman. In 2016, golf course architect Paul Jensen completely overhauled the property, elevating it to modern standards while retaining its tropical island charm.

Redesign & Strategic Playability

The extensive 2016 renovation modernized all 18 green complexes and strategically repositioned a reduced number of bunkers.

• Shot Variety: The update introduced strategic mounding, fairway tiers, and grass depressions to encourage a wider variety of shot-making.

• The Demands: While wider fairways offer a more forgiving experience for average players, low handicappers are presented with aggressive, high-reward birdie lines. However, the course still demands precise approach shots to avoid the penalizing, long grass that frames most holes.

Two Diverse 9-Hole Loops

The course is split into two distinct out-and-back nine-hole loops: a highly undulating front nine and a flatter, more tropical back nine.

• The Front Nine (Coastal & Lagoons): The round opens with striking ocean vistas on holes 2 through 4, before wrapping around a scenic network of natural lagoons on holes 6 through 8. The 9th hole closes the loop with a grueling, uphill climb back toward the clubhouse.

• The Back Nine (Jungle & Rock Outcroppings): Holes 10 through 15 plunge players deep into a dense jungle environment characterized by unique, natural rock formations.

• The Finale: The stretch finishes with the long, forest-lined par-4 16th which routes players back toward the ocean. This sets up the signature 17th hole—a spectacular and visually intimidating par-3 requiring a precise carry over the beach and a rocky shoreline to a well-guarded green, set against the backdrop of the hillside Banyan Tree Resort.

Clubhouse & Amenities

The Setting: Perched at the highest point of the property, the traditional Indonesian-style clubhouse offers panoramic views of the entire course.

• Facilities: Refurbished alongside the course in 2016, the clubhouse blends modern luxury with tropical aesthetics. It features a well-stocked pro shop with logoed apparel, full golfer amenities, and a terrace café managed by Banyan Tree that serves an excellent selection of local and international dishes.
