Course Overview

The highly prestigious and historically significant Sungai Long Golf & Country Club stands as a preeminent 18-hole international championship golf development situated in the booming township of Cheras, Selangor, Malaysia. Masterfully crafted by the legendary "Golden Bear" Jack Nicklaus, this iconic layout holds the proud distinction of being the first-ever Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course in Malaysia. Spanning a challenging 7,012 yards (6,412 meters) from the back championship markers, the property officially opened in 1993 and has hosted numerous premier amateur and professional tournaments. Located just 25 minutes from downtown Kuala Lumpur, it offers elite international golf travelers an impeccably designed, tournament-tested destination for a premium Malaysia golf holiday.

Signature Nicklaus Bunkering and Strategic Parkland Layout

Maintained to pristine tournament standards, Sungai Long Golf & Country Club features world-class turfgrass conditioning, utilizing premium Bermuda grass on the sweeping fairways and ultra-smooth, fast Tifdwarf on the heavily contoured putting surfaces. The defining architectural hallmark of this Jack Nicklaus masterpiece is the extensive use of large, deeply flashed sand bunkers that protect landing zones and guard every green complex, demanding absolute accuracy from the tee and on approach shots.

The layout is brilliantly sculpted with gentle rolling movements, seamlessly integrating mature tropical trees, manicured garden landscapes, and sprawling water hazards that come into play on multiple holes. True to Nicklaus's design philosophy, the course rewards tactical intelligence and ball-striking precision over brute strength. Golfers must carefully map out their shots, as wayward drives will easily find the heavy rough or the massive sand traps, while the multi-tiered green complexes require a soft touch and expert green-reading skills to avoid dropping strokes.

Notable and Signature Hole Designs

Sungai Long Golf & Country Club delivers a highly memorable and strategically engaging playing experience defined by its bold hazard placements and signature challenges:

• The Heart-Pounding Water Challenges: Multiple back-nine holes feature expansive lakes bordering the fairways, forcing players to execute precise carries over water into well-defended greens.
• The Iconic Nicklaus Par 3s: The short holes require maximum precision, with greens heavily guarded by deep sand bunkers on one side and lateral water hazards on the other, creating beautiful yet tense playing conditions.
• The Dramatic Finishing Hole: A grueling par-4 that requires a long, accurate drive to avoid strategic sand traps, followed by a nerve-wracking approach shot over a lake toward the elevated clubhouse terrace.
